Since its foundation in 1977, Galleri Image has presented a wealth of both Danish and international artists of the highest quality. In 2011 the gallery embarked on the work of creating ‘The Image Collection’. This photographic archive has in the course of just a few years grown to a significant size with an impressive range based on generous donations by artists who have exhibited at the gallery.
To celebrate Galleri Image’s 35th anniversary, we hosted a large-scale exhibition by the artist Lasse Krog Møller called A Collection in 2012, which was based on works and artefacts hidden away in the gallery’s attic and archives. During the exhibition, we started to develop the idea of a publication based on photographic media which would address the phenomenon of collecting in words and images. The book was published in 2016.
A publication on photographic art and the art of collecting has not previously been published in this form. We are very grateful that the renowned Spanish artist and curator Joan Fontcuberta has accepted our invitation to write a text on collections for our book. We are equally grateful that the Danish curator and researcher Louise Wolthers, PhD also agreed to write a text for the publication. Lasse Krog Møller himself has contributed with images and a text on his exhibition. After a long period of preparation and cataloguing we are now able to present ‘The Image Collection’ in a way we hope will reach and be enjoyed by as many people as possible. The collection can be seen as visual excerpts from Galleri Image’s long history, but also as a cross section of international, contemporary photographic art.
The book is 144 pages with a canvas cover, illustrated in full colour, edited by Minik Busk Langkjær, graphic design by Lasse Krog Møller, and printed at Narayana Press.
