Throughout May and June 2024, Galleri Image hosted the Chinese visual artist Chen Zhe in an artist residency. During her stay in Denmark, Chen Zhe took part in various network meetings in Aarhus and Copenhagen with Danish artists, art professionals and cultural institutions, and commenced research on a future art project, a sculpture for the cityscape. As part of the residency, she also participated in several public events, including the artist talk ‘From the Body to the Stars’.

In 2022, Galleri Image showed Chen Zhe’s beautiful solo exhibition curated by Yining He entitled Towards Evenings, My Heart. The exhibition explored the twilight hours through a series of works from her Towards Evenings series, mixing photography, archival materials, sound, and literature. Thanks to a generous donation from the S. C. Van Foundation, we were finally able to welcome her to Aarhus!

Chen Zhe (b. 1989) lives and works in Beijing, China, and holds a degree in Photography and Imaging from the Art Center College of Design, Los Angeles. Her works have been shown at biennials and museums around the world, including China, Japan, Germany, Norway and Australia. She has received a number of prestigious awards including the Foam Talent (2018), the Xitek New Talent Award (2015) and the Lianzhou Festival Photographer of the Year Award (2012). Chen Zhe’s release “Bees & the Bearable” was awarded Best Photobook of the Year at the Kassel Photobook Festival in 2016.
