Conversations About Time and Technology – Galleri Image
The talk “Conversations About Time and Technology” was held at Galleri Image March 6, 2021, in conjunction with the exhibition “Time Times Three” by Danish artist Rebecca Krasnik.
Participating in the talk are Rebecca Krasnik and artists Sophia Ioannou Gjerding and Mark Tholander, moderated by Magdalena Tyżlik-Carver, Assistant Professor at Aarhus University.
The talk based its discussions on ideas on technological developments, such as photography from around the turn of the 19th century. It initiated discussions on how technological developments continue to affect the production and interpretation of images today. The talk thereby examined the thoughts and ideas that lie behind the production and consumption of computer generated imagery; the temporal and spatial possibilities which occur within them, and the effect these possibilities have on the ways in which we experience time and space.

The exhibition was supported by the Danish Arts Foundation, the City of Aarhus (Kulturudviklingspuljen), The A.P. Møller Foundation, The William Demant Foundation and the Augustinus Foundation.

Piertopia by The State of L3 – Galleri Image
Aiming to understand and examine links between African ancestry, immigration and visual culture, The State of L3 placed a series of walkways and jetties inside Galleri Image. These inter-connected constructions display images and projections from various countries and landscapes.
The exhibition revolved around a question of identity, collectively focusing on the hereditary ties of the African slaves who were transported to Brazil or Suriname in the time of Dutch colonial rule.
The artists making up The State of L3 seek a common visual language that can tell the unique cultural history and background of the Africans, as well as emphasizing their common genetic ties with contemporary Africa.

Separate and Together: Landscape Imagery and Icelandic Identity: Ann Sofie Nielsen Gremaud – Galleri Image
The seminar Separate and Together: Landscape Imagery and Icelandic Identity was held on September 30th at 2 PM. The seminar was in connection with the then exhibition This Island Earth and centred on Icelandic contemporary art with a special focus on Danish-Icelandic relations.
Ann-Sofie Nielsen Gremaud, PhD in Art History and Cultural Studies from the University of Copenhagen. Gremaud discussed the curious mix of self-exotification and satirical meta-reflection used in contemporary depictions of Icelandic landscapes. Around the financial crash in 2008, old stereotypes and the long tradition of ambivalence connected to Iceland’s position as civilized nation was activated as a resource in re-building the national image abroad. But artists have been working with what she has called the “crypto-colonial” dynamics for much longer time – and in more and more critical ways.
OBS: The video is only an incomplete recording of this lecture due to recording equipment malfunction.

Wild as the Wind by Michelle Eistrup – Galleri Image
For two years Michelle Eistrup observed, photographed and filmed a herd of wild horses in an open range of beach at Læsø, one of Denmark’s many islands.
Since it wasn’t feasible in any way to control the behaviour of the animals, Eistrup had to rely on following and observing the horses’ movements largely on their own terms.
