In the exhibition Dissolved Darkness Veronika Geiger explores the human connection/relationship to the Earth through photography and video. Geiger is inspired by geology, particularly geological measurements of Earth’s deep time. The project focuses on to
locations in Iceland: an underground lava cave at Snæfellsnes and Fagradalsfjall, an erupting volcano. The exhibition Dissolved Darkness contains cameraless photographic experiments created using the lava cave as a dark room. The photographic works are created using elements from dark room techniques and geological fieldwork. The videos showcase the varied nature and character of the two locations: The frozen form of the cave, and the volcano with its liquid landscape-forming magma. Geiger investigates the concrete natural phenomena and the way they are existentially connected to humans.About the Artist Veronika Geiger is a Danish/Swiss visual artist based in Denmark. She has studied at the Glasgow School of Art and the Iceland Academy of the Arts. In her work, she gathers inspiration from geological field research, but rather than time stamping and categorising, her works communicate about time and life in an open visual language. She has participated in several expeditions with geologists, especially in Iceland, but also in Sicily, and draws from her experience with living near the landscapes in uninhabited and remote locations around the globe. Her work has been exhibited in Denmark, UK, Iceland, Switzerland, USA, China, Mexico, Russia and France. Read more on the artist’s website: www.veronikageiger.com The exhibition will be accompanied by a symposium in collaboration with Jacob Wamberg, art historian and professor at Aarhus University amongst others. The exhibition is supported by The Danish Art Foundation, the city of Aarhus (Kulturudviklingspuljen), the Beckett Foundation, Grosserer L. F. Foghts Foundation, the Augustinus Foundation and DJ:Fotograferne.

Galleri Image presents the exhibition Good Hope Keepers and The Mirrored Portraits of the Ocean by the Greenlandic artist Inuuteq Storch. The exhibition juxtaposes 19th century Greenland with the Greenland of today. Inuuteq Storch’s own contemporary photog
raphs of his hometown Sisimiut (from the upcoming book Keepers of the Ocean) are presented alongside the archival project Mirrored - Portraits of Good Hope, where he has gotten a hold of photos by Greenland’s first photographer John "Ujuut" Møller from the period 1889-1935.To Inuuteq Storch, the two series of artworks in the exhibition are a part of a larger effort to promote Greenlandic self expression and postcolonial consciousness about national pride and identity. The exhibition connects the works of the two Greenlandic photographers over a period of more than 100 years and explores the development of the geographic identity as seen from the perspective of its people. Inuuteq Storch grew up in Greenland, where the landscape and weather is dominant and where nature rules over life’s rhythms. But the stories being told about life in this landscape have historically been influenced by Danish travelers, whose views on its nature and its people have affected how they have been portrayed. In Storch’s art he is searching for his own visual narrative, as well as that of other Greenlandic people: How do the images look, when they come from within and not from the outside? The book, Inuuteq Storch: John Møller - Mirrored, Portraits of Good Hope published by Roulette Russe, will be launched at the opening of the exhibition. At the exhibition opening there was a small concert with Greenlandic artist Jaaku Sørensen - see the concert here. The video is made by Kirse Juul Thomsen.Inuuteq Storch at Photobook Week AarhusInuuteq Storch curated an exhibition at Galleri Image during Photobook Week Aarhus, which took place 14-17 October. The exhibition Eye to Eye - Photobooks and Zines from Greenland is still on display at Galleri Image and shows photobooks from Greenlandic and international artists and tells a story about Greenland in pictures seen from the perspective of the Greenlandic people.Symposium: Gazes on GreenlandIn conjunction with the exhibition, we will present the symposium Gazes on Greenland, where different points of view on art from and about Greenland will be discussed.
