Aarhus will be visited by Teresa Meka (b. 1990), a young female photographer from Ghana, in connection with Galleri Image and the Aarhus Center for Literature’s project FRESH EYES – International Artists Rethink Aarhus. Teresa Meka will be on residency in order to be inspired by the city and to create her contribution to FRESH EYES. Her photographic style is creative and detail-oriented person photography. Her work is a process of questioning and self-discovery, she seeks to document her relationship with society and how it evolves with time. Her choice of subject matter comes from her lived experience, observing and questioning the various interactions that transpire in her space. Her best known work is the ongoing project Bed Series (2014- ), in which she documents various empty beds with a keen eye for the motive’s inherent symbolism. She is the youngest artist participating in the FRESH EYES-project and accordingly contributes a unique perspective among the FRESH EYES-artists.
Teresa Meka studied at the College of Digital Photography in Johannesburg, participated in projects with the Dei Centre Ghana, Master Class Khartoum given by Invisible Borders and the Sudanese Photographers Group, Goethe Institute Dakar/Berlin workshop Accra, Johannesburg Masterclass, and the Gwanza Month of Photography Moonwalking exhibition Harare.
Teresa Meka's residency is supported by CKU - the Danish Center for Culture and Development
