Galleri Image præsenterer talken "Conversations about Time and Technology" med billedkunstnerne Rebecca Krasnik, Sophia Ioannou Gjerding og Mark Tholander, modereret af Magdalena Tyżlik-Carver, lektor ved Aarhus Universitet. Galleri Image har i årtier været et unikt og dynamisk sted for fotografi og linsebaseret kunst med stor betydning lokalt, nationalt, og internationalt.
For min egen professionelle udvikling som forsker og kurator med speciale i fotografi har galleriet spillet en afgørende rolle, helt fra da jeg som studerende i kunsthistorie ved Aarhus Universitet med særlig interesse jævnligt kunne se nye former for fotografisk kunst, møde kunstnere og kuratorer samt selv deltage i galleriets generøse aktiviteter og netværk. Galleri Image har været en værdifuld udstillingsplatform og givet værdifuld indsigt og praktisk erfaring til ikke bare mig men også en lang række andre kulturarbejdere, kunstnere og fotografer, som har været i berøring med stedet i løbet af årene.
Jeg er stadig i kontakt med tidligere udstillere, der som jeg føler stor taknemmelighed og loyalitet med galleriet, og som fortsætter med at holde os orienteret og lader os inspirere af det ambitiøse udstillingsprogram.
Galleri Image er således både en historisk vigtig og en toneangivende institution i dag med fortsat stort potentiale, som fortjener mere plads og flere ressourcer for at blive udfoldet.

- it´s role in the city and internationally
Galleri Image plays an important role in art and especially photography by exhibiting, publishing and organising events for local, national and international audiences. Galleri Image is very well known internationally for its high quality and topical programs and professionalism.
It has been my great pleasure to have been part of this international network which the Galleri has established. The program of the Galleri has been the reason why I have visited Aarhus several times. I have taken part in the seminars and photobook events, art weekends as well as visited number of the exhibitions at the Galleri and other venues of the city. For me, it has also been valuable to exchange ideas and information between professionals.
Galleri Image deserves a better venue and a more central location in the city where its impact can be even better and more visible.

Endorsement for Beate Cegielska and Galleri Image Aarhus
This letter is a pronounced recommendation for Beate Cegielska and Galleri Image, which is based on my knowledge of their work in the field of photography, visual arts and new media, and which I have followed over the last 15 years, both as a curator and educator.
As a curator, I have had the privilege to mount two important exhibitionS at the venue, one in 2008 and another in 2014. As an educator, I have collaborated with Beate since 2010, when she started teaching in the framework of the Master of Contemporary Photography at the Istituto di Design (IED), here in Madrid. Within the program, Beate has helped students from all over the world to develop concepts for their projects, and directed them on both conceptual and practical levels. As a result of this institutional relationship, some of our ex- students have been part of Galleri Images exhibition program over the years.
Beyond its role in the field of photography, I am also interested in Galleri Images connection to cultural interchange and global networking for the field of visual arts. Indeed, Beate has managed to take the exhibition space to an international level of excellence and a highly recognized landmark institution in the field. Photobook Week Aarhus is only one of many examples, but one that I have been very closely involved with since its beginning, now seven years ago. Other exhibitions and the presentations of artists from all five continents have received a lot of interest, even if they had to fit in the small space on Vestergade. It is thus high time for a bigger space for Galleri Images ambitious program.
Finally, one cannot stress enough, that enabling participation in cultural activities is a major factor in reaching equal and peaceful societies. I am therefore happy to endorse Galleri Image as an outstanding example of an institution that promotes visual culture in the Nordic countries, and I wish this institution the best of luck in its future development.

GALLERI IMAGE, EN KUNSTHAL I AARHUS
Med afsæt i min post som bestyrelsesformand for FKD (Foreningen af Kunsthaller i Danmark) fortæller jeg ofte, at Aarhus har intet mindre end to kunsthaller: Kunsthal Aarhus beliggende i J. M. Mørks Gade og Galleri Image i Vestergade.
Sidstnævnte er for de færreste kendt som en kunsthal, men har ikke desto qua sin non-kommercielle profil og sit publikumsinkluderende program længe været anerkendt som et ambitiøst og internationalt orienteret udstillingssted med fokus på samtidsfotografi og andre kamerabaserede medier.
Etableret i 1977 er Galleri Image Skandinaviens ældste udstillingssted for netop fotokunst og var i flere år det eneste af sin slags i Danmark.
I forhold til fremadrettet at udvikle institutionens format og samspil med Aarhus øvrige kunstinstitutioner synes det oplagt, at Galleri Image bør inkluderes i planerne for Aarhus Sydhavnsbyggeri. Dette vil ikke alene sikre Galleri Image mere synlighed men også videreudvikle institutionens publikumsudviklende og brugerinddragende profil.
Et af nøgleordene i FKD er således fællesskabets betydning og vigtigheden af, at udvikle de individuelle kunsthaller i bestræbelserne på at opnå større synlighed som institutionstype.

Da jeg flyttede til byen for fire år siden, blev jeg straks opmærksom på, hvordan Galleri Image stak ud med sit tårnhøje, internationale niveau. Siden har jeg ofte besøgt stedet, og jeg er aldrig gået skuffet derfra. I Galleri Image bruger man tiden godt, og sådanne steder har en by med kulturambitioner brug for. Det er dog også tid til, at galleriet forlader de små kælderlokaler, som mange går forbi uden at opdage galleriet. Det er tid til, at Galleri Image får den luft under vingerne, som ambitionsniveauet fortjener.

For mig er Galleri Image sammenlignelig med en musling. Fra sit lille mørke i hjertet af Aarhus er det med til at nære og puste liv i fotokunst fra hele verden, og af høj international kvalitet. Udadtil gør galleriet ikke væsen af sig, men idet man træder ind, åbenbares kunsten for øjnene af en som en sjælden perle.
