History of Violence by Peter Brandt

Galleri Image presents the exhibition History of Violence by the Danish visual artist Peter Brandt.
In History of Violence, Peter Brandt explores connections between violence, trauma, and gender.

The main characters of the exhibition are director, author and intellectual Pier Paolo Pasolini and Cuban-American artist Ana Mendieta, who both fell victim to a violent death under mysterious circumstances in 1975 and 1985, respectively.Pasolini is known for his film Saló, o le 120 giornete di Sodoma, and Mendieta for her “earth-body” works. Even though the two main characters of the exhibition never met, Peter Brandt connects them, not only through their cause of death, but also through their work as artists, which often revolved around violence and the body.

Based on extensive research in Rome, Ostia, Bologna and Carsarsa, the exhibition will explore the connection between the history and atmosphere of a space and the violent acts that have been committed there. Brandt will produce new works for the exhibition, incorporating performance, archive material, text, photos, video, and textile works.

In conjunction with the exhibition Galleri Image will host a seminar with several speakers, including Peter Brandt and Katrine Dirckinck-Holmfeld.
