Photobook Week Aarhus 2020

Photobook Week Aarhus (PWA) will take place 1 – 4 October 2020.

The Festival will include a wide range of exciting exhibitions, talks, book markets, tours, and book presentations on locations throughout the city center of Aarhus.

PWA is Denmark’s first and only festival dedicated to presenting the relevance and role of the photobook as part of the artistic landscape. For the seventh time we have arranged an international program with exhibitions and seminars showing the trends in contemporary art and architecture in photobooks. PWA 2020 will be located at Galleri Image, HEART Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, ARoS Aarhus Art Museum, Dokk1 and Aarhus School of Architecture.

This year's festival will explore the theme of Series-Multiplicity-Repetition, and will examine unique conditions and characteristics in photography and photobooks. The focus is set on the global distribution, and different subthemes will be discussed such as publishing formats, printings, and democracy vs. exclusivity. The program for PWA 2020 includes exhibitions and talks with international and Nordic researchers of photography, photographers, leading curators, architects, and many other qualified contributors.

It is key for the artistic environment and publishing industry in Denmark to have a photobook festival. Our purpose with the festival is to create the important meeting between professionals and the public. Like last year, PWA will take place at the same time as Art Weekend Aarhus, which is a celebration of the city’s artistic scene.

PWA is a collaboration between Galleri Image and Aarhus School of Architecture.

Photobook Week Aarhus 2020 is supported by the City of Aarhus (Kulturudviklingspuljen), Dreyers Foundation, Augustinus Foundation, Instituto Camõe, Nordea-foundation, Sonning Foundation and the Obel Family Foundation.
