On the 28th of March Galleri Image will host a discussion between the artist David Stjernholm, memory researcher Annette Bohn, and the sommelier Jens Peter Nebsbjerg from MASH. The discussion will focus on the concepts of memory and sensation, inspired by David Stjernholm's current exhibition Seedless Grapes at Galleri Image.
During and after the conversation it will be possible to ask questions of the participants, and an image forming wine will be served.

What happens when we sense, store our sensations, and finally recall them again? What is memory and remembrance, and how is this connected to our sensory apparatus? Can we trust our senses and can we trust the world around us?

What is your first great ta
ste experience?

David Stjernholm: On a photograph from the summer of '88 I'm sitting on a blanket eating a big strawberry. I'm two years old, alone and huge dandelions surround the blanket. When I think back it's not only one of the first memories I have but at the same time it's also one of the first transsensory experiences that I can recall. Being in the shade away from the midday sun, the surface of the blanket, the taste and feel of those big strawberries, and the distant noise of a manual lawnmower (that I think I can remember). All part of the same memory.
At a family dinner a couple of years ago, we are rifling through a family album and that particular photo turns up. I talk about my memories of the day and of my vacation at my uncle's house where the picture was taken. About how easily I can recall this memory that all it takes is the taste of similar strawberries or the scent of dandelions. My sister looks at me in wonder and tells me that it's not me at all in that photo but my cousin, whom I looked just like when we were small.
