On Monday 3 November at 7.30 pm. Galleri Image will be hosting a seminar on art, architecture and media architecture in cooperation with Aarhus Centre for Litterature and Aarhus Center for Visual Art. The seminar will take place at Godsbanen vogn 1 with the participation of chairman of the 2014 Media Architecture Biennale in Aarhus Martin Brynskov, German photographer Thomas Kellner and artist and headmaster at The Jutland Art Academy Jesper Rasmussen.

The Media Architecture Biennale 2014 will be taking place in Aarhus from 19 - 22 November. Media architecture is a fusion of architecture and media for instance when a building’s façade also function as an interactive screen. Chairman of the biennale, Martin Brynskov, will give a talk on the varied and innovative field of media architecture.

Thomas Kellner is visiting Aarhus in connection to the project FRESH EYES – international artists rethink Aarhus. During his stay he will interpret one of the iconic buildings of Aarhus through his unique photographic method. Kellner often makes use of architectural structures which are visually recognizable or iconic in western culture and during his talk Kellner will introduce the audience to this fascinating conceptual practice and its aesthetics.

The themes of space, place and architecture have been the persistent focal point of the artistic practice of Jesper Rasmussen, for instance in the photographic series Off Location where buildings and locations in the public sphere have been digitally retouched, so that all traces of human presence and activity have been removed. Even though the buildings appear familiar there is something alienating and uncanny about the pictures due to Rasmussen’s subtle artistic alterations. As a result, the places appear as a kind of parallel reality. The talk by Jesper Rasmussen will center on his original approach to working artistically with these architectural structures.
