The Danish photo- and video artist Gitte Høtbjerg Hansen (b. 1982) recently moved back to Denmark after having lived and studied at the Glasgow School of Art in Scotland. In her humorous and idiosyncratic video Untitled (2010), and in almost close-up, we encounter an affectionate struggle between two goat kids. This, somehow distinct angle, prevent our immediate approach to the entire scene of the affectionate struggle. But in doing so, and furthermore, in this ambivalent narrow point of focus, the struggle becomes crucial and (a) human fixation is almost unavoidable. This visual spectacle creates a reference to, and maybe rather dysfunctional, desire that may arise of the passionate heat of the struggle, in the mind of the human being. Even though, wooden planks that make an actual meeting in between impossible obstruct the two goat-kids, they continue seeking contact, which make the fight or struggle become (even) more instinctive. By doing this, the artist creates a narrative suspense, which captivates and maintains our gaze, and at the same time brings to mind the extended story of storytelling as an instinctive set of mind. Galleri Image is proud to present this premier of Gitte Høtbjerg Hansen's video in Denmark and in the Demo Room of Gallery Images. The exhibition is curated by Cecilie Bepler.
